CCA INFORMATION & BULLETINS

Outdoor Handicap League

Citrus Archers plans on running an outdoor league this winter very similar to the one we had at the Inverness airport. There  will be a $10 preregistration fee to cover cost of targets, score cards and awards. Approximately 50% of participants will earn awards.

The league  will run from Dec 1st through Feb 29th. with (8) scores needed to complete the league. Basically shoot with another league participant and turn in a score.  We will be using the hunter target (black with white bullseye), 4 arrows and 10 of our 14 targets. Maximum distance 50 yards, to encourage new shooters. Specific rules will be posted prior to start..   “Honor system”

       What is Field Archery?

Field Archery is a challenging course. It is generally in a wooded area, on varying terrain, and distance and target size vary. A proficient field archer is usually a proficient 3-D and target archer. Field  courses have marked yardages, and most notably is a game of” Shooting not Yardage estimation” A Field Range consists of a unit of 14 targets, each with a unique distance. The targets can be on varying terrain, and in any order, but world wide the distances are the same. A typical round consist of 4 arrows at each target on two (14) target units, or the same (14) target unit twice for a total of 112 arrows. Target distances vary from 20 feet to 240 feet (80yds). You learn to shoot a “SPOT” at very long distances, consequently becoming a better Archer. Shorter distances are provided for younger shooters.     Truly a “Family Sport” The Hunter Rd, Animal Rd, and International Rd are also variations of the Field round and very enjoyable games as well. All are known distances. With today’s technology; most hunting situations are pretty much known distances as well.

The County Forestry Department is planning on doing a “controlled burn” on the property that we utilize for our outdoor Range, depending on weather conditions, etc.  The plan is to do it in Jan 2012.  We have removed the benches , and when conditions are right we will have to pull out the targets and place them outside of the burn area. This will cause a disruption in use of the range for a couple of weeks. Any help will be appreciated when the time comes to do this.

Significant rainfall is key to starting the process.  Please be patient.. This should result in an even nicer shooting environment, with new plant growth expected.
